Who we are

Excellent Company Growers started in 2019. We combine the contribution of capital with knowledge and expertise (so-called smart money). Based on our own experience and expertise, ECG focuses on technology startups for the food production sector.

Hands-on

We are very hands-on. Down-to-earth. We use common sense and want to help. Not just by sending a bag of money, but by getting our hands dirty, when needed. To stand beside you as a business owner. Indeed, you get a bag of money. But that bag comes with our experts as an extra.

Hans Kleijwegt and Peter Kleijwegt build their own business in Flower Bulbs and Information Technologies which have both been sold at impressive company values. Our Investments

The ECG Ventures Team has a massive track record of developing successful enterprises in challenging conditions. Focus

Innovative and disruptive

ECG is looking for FoodTech companies (artificial intelligence, data science and analytics, blockchain) active in Food production technologies (agricultural mechanization and robotics, vertical and urban farming)

Early-stage startup

ECG will focus its investments primarily in the early-stage start-up. That means the company also has a Proof of Concept (PoC) and ideally first buying customers at the time of investment.

Important is a technical highly promising and highly scalable product, based in the Netherlands but possibilities to scale-up globally.

Excellent team

We focus on early-stage start-ups with exceptional good management teams. The start-up management team is complemented by active ECG involvement in areas where the start-up lacks capabilities (e.g. financial, commercial or general entrepreneurial experience).

Join us as investor

We believe that the technologies on which we focus have extreme potential and that developments in these markets have just started.

Early-stage financing (e.g. seed capital) usually has, compared to Later Stage Financing, a higher risk profile. We aim to mitigate the higher risk by a high-quality due diligence using our specific technology knowledge, investing relatively smaller amounts per start-up and by adding our own knowledge to the team once we have invested. For every start-up we invest in, it is our ambition to bring the start-up to a next stage of development gaining access to later stage financing at a significant higher valuation.

Proof of Concepts, creating a Minimum Viable Product, gaining first customers and first revenues combined with solving skills gaps in the management teams and legal and other practical preparation for the next phase will have our focus.

Within those investments we make use of the knowledge and expertise of both our management team and founders. We have a wide range of expertise, from Horticulture and Data Science to Company Management and Financial expertise.

Team

The team consists of Peter Kleijwegt, Johan van Heusden and Jacco Zuijdweg. Besides this operational team the ECG Founder’s Hans Kleijwegt and Roger Lu contribute where necessary.

Johan van Heusden
Managing Partner / Investment Manager / CFO
Experience as CFO of A.I. start-ups (currently Seedlink Technologies and WDD). Master in Accountancy and in Business Valuation. Worked as Transaction Services / M&A Consultant for big and small companies (i.e. Ledyears Exit in 2018 and the Tele2 / T-Mobile Merger in 2019).

Jacco Zuijdweg
Investment Manager / AI Expert / Data Scientist
Experience in Innovation, AI and Data Science projects, especially in improvement programs. Besides development courses, Jacco has studied Data Science and Analytics at Tilburg University and Mechanical Engineering at Delft University.
